For a couple of weeks ago, an idea hit upon me and I felt I had to try it out to see if it works.
So I did that.
The idea was to make a bag from an used clothes. I use to go to second-hand clothes shop to look for some clothes, they sell them for a very low price but most of the items are usually too large. So I almost always can’t find anything to wear. But I thought, maybe I could use them for other than wearing them.
After doing some research, I found one of the pages of eeio’s blogg that introduces his decent work on making a messenger bag from scratch. He’s using the golden ratio for designing bags which is very cool.
So I borrowed his idea to put my idea into the real.
This is a sketch I made when I got the idea.
This is a sketch for the making the my bag.
This is a shot after I cut it into pieces.
After finished making. It became like a shoulder bag. I used two belts for shoulder and a necktie for decoration as the bag is mad of jacket. The tie is also changeable.
It was my first time using sewing machine. I thought it could be very very difficult but it wasn’t. It was very easy to learn to use and it was very fun working with it.
The costs for this bag
: clothes:390 JPY( 4 USD)+belt: free, I used mine that I no longer use+thread:maybe 20 JPY(0.2USD)+some electricity for using sewing machine: I don’t really know but I guess.. less than 100 JPY(1USD)
=around 510 JPY (5.1 USD)
I’m thinking to make some other bags using other materials like some pants or mixing of other clothes or something other than clothes as long as they’re cheap.
This is a link again for the instruction I used to make this bag:
